The use of technology does not only impact the child but it also impacts the people around them.
As we continue in today’s society we slowly begin to notice the disconnect between parents and their child or at school the distance between children and their peers. Children are very impressionable, they often do as they see. As they grow up in a society that has an umpteen amount of technology they are urged to imitate their parents and other children by picking up a device and swiping through it as they see (Courage & Troseth, 2012). This increase has definitely sparked a concern to educators and parents about the influence of technology on their children (Hosokawa & Katura, 2018). This could easily be viewed as a negative situation because of the lack of social interaction that could result from the use of all this technology. When children are young technology can be seen as a distraction from the world, often times when children are on devices they are not able to focus on multiple things (Courage & Troseth, 2012). This is what many parents witness which leads them to believe that using this technology will lead their children to isolate themselves. There is a lot of concern surrounding the time spent with technology and how that will replace the time spent with others and the learning of children (Courage & Troseth, 2016). However, in many cases, the use of digital technology increases the interaction of the children. Using technology with younger children often encourages the children to interact with each other and many educators observed that they rarely use tablets in the classroom in isolation (Shifflet, Toledo & Mattoon, 2012). Not only do the children work cooperatively they also engage collaboratively. When there is technology present in the classroom and is used for an activity the children can work together to create new experiences. They are also able to fed off one another's suggestion and take turns with the device (Shifflet, Toledo & Mattoon, 2012). There are many application on devices that can be downloaded that require the children to communicate with one another. If technology is used correctly it can be used as an advantage to parents and educators. Children will alway have the desire to interact with one another, it is easy to combine the two to create an environment that is open for all the children.
